![]() Our Problem: Everyone wants to go to Heaven, but how are you going to get there? Many people think as long as they’re a good person and as long as their good deeds out-weigh their bad ones, that God will let them in. Sooo... are you good enough? How much good is needed? Can anyone do enough good to get into Heaven? The answer is a loud NO! Everyone has sinned by braking God’s laws; and no-one measurers up to God’s perfect and sinless standard. God’s laws are an impossible, incredible weight that crushes everyone. No-one can lift it. No-one can keep God’s laws, it’s impossible. You can’t earn your way into Heaven by doing good deeds, no-one can. We’re all guilty, helpless, and unable to do anything to save ourselves. No-one is good enough to get into Heaven; not even close. (Romans 3:9-20, 23; James 2:10) Our Punishment: God is thee’ only true and perfect judge; He won’t let sin slide, He won’t stretch the rules, and He won’t play favorites. God will and must punish everyone for their sins; and God’s punishment for sin is eternity in the Lake-of-Fire. God won’t ignore our sins just because we “honestly” tried our best; that would make Him dishonest and crooked. What makes us think we can smooth-talk God Almighty? On judgment-day, are you really going to say, “God, you know my heart. You know I’m a good person. Look at all my good deeds. I went to church and I paid my taxes?” The excuses we think we’re going to use in Heaven would get us laughed at in our own courts. All sin must be punished, and we are all horribly beyond guilty. You can be sure that death will come, and after death, you will be judged. (Hebrews 9:27; Matthew 25:41) God our Savior: We are all totally helpless and guilty; but Jesus came down from Heaven and was born into this world to rescue and save us from the penalty and punishment of our sins. Jesus is God in the flesh. He alone is our Savior. Jesus gave Himself as a sacrifice with His death on the cross for your salvation. He died on the cross to take the complete penalty and punishment for all your sins. He was your substitute, He took your place, and He took your punishment. The punishment that you were supposed to get was completely poured out onto Him. Jesus’ sacrifice was perfect, complete, and final. Jesus paid it all; nothing else needs to be done. And after paying for sins with His death, Jesus physically rose from the dead and went back into Heaven to sit on His throne at the right-hand side of God the Father. (Romans 5:6-9; John 8:23-24; 1stJohn 4:9-10; Colossians 2:9, 13-14; 1stCorinthians 15:3-4) What must you do to be saved? Hate sin and turn to Jesus, trusting in Him as your Lord, God, and Savior and you'll be eternally saved. That's what it means to repent and believe. It’s not just knowing who the savior is, but confessing Him as Lord, bowing to Him as God, and putting your faith, trust, and confidence in Him as your Savior. You used to think you were a good person just trying your best; but now you’re broken with disgust, shame, and sorrow over your sins. You now know that you are helpless, that you can’t do anything to save yourself, and that you only deserve God’s punishment for your sins. You used to be comfortable and satisfied with yourself; but now you hate sin and you want to be clean and forgiven. You used to be wrong about Jesus; but now you have given Him your allegiance proclaiming Him as God in the flesh and Lord of all! You used to think you had to earn Heaven and keep your salvation; but now you know that you are helpless and that only Jesus can save you. Your confidence is no longer in yourself but in the finished work Christ. Jesus paid it all; nothing else needs to be done. Your salvation has nothing to do with trying to keep the Ten Commandments, being a good person, or doing good deeds. You’re saved only because Jesus took your punishment for you by paying the full and final price for all your sins with His death on the cross. He was your substitute, He took your place, and He took your punishment. Being a good person and doing good deeds doesn’t save you, help save you, or keep you saved in any way. Being obedient to God only proves that you truly believe, love, and belong to Him. You can’t ever lose your salvation because Jesus’ sacrifice was eternal, perfect, complete, and final. Change your mind to be against sin, turn to Jesus and proclaim Him to be your Lord and your God, trust in Him as your Savior and you will be saved, and you will have eternal life! (John 3:16; 6:28-29,40,47; Acts 20:21; Romans 10:9-13) |
